I’m beyond excited to officially launch my latest body of work — a new series called Every Bloom.
This one’s a little different. It’s a concept I’ve been quietly building in the background — something that merges my painting practice with a hands-on, design-driven process that felt totally fresh and creatively charged. At the heart of this series is a collection of small, native floral arrangements titled Flower Song, each painted onto hand-deckled matboard, mounted on colour-blocked timber, and finished with a handmade frame and non-reflective art glass. It’s a build-from-scratch concept that I dreamed up as a way to extend what I do on canvas — giving each piece structure, depth and texture while still keeping it true to my expressive, layered style. There are eight of these little beauties, along with a few larger canvas works in the mix, all featuring Australia’s most iconic native blooms. Honestly, I’ve never seen anything quite like it out there — and that’s what made it so exciting to create.
Every Detail, Handcrafted with Intention
Every part of these pieces is made by hand — with a heap of care, thought and time poured into each step. I start by painting the background directly onto the matboard, then hand-deckle the edges to give them this raw, organic, earthy feel — a nod to the grounded nature of the flowers themselves. From there, I layer on the native blooms in full colour and character, before mounting the piece onto a custom-painted timber backboard, carefully chosen to complement the palette of the florals. Then it’s time for the handmade frame, which I build myself in the studio, and finish the whole thing with non-reflective art glass, so you can admire the work from any angle without distraction. It’s intricate, it’s slow, but that’s what makes it special.
Pushing Creative Boundaries, Rooted in Nature
I’m seriously proud of how this series has come together. It’s brought me so much joy — not just because it’s something new, but because it pushed me to experiment, problem-solve, and trust my creative gut. I’ve always had a deep love for native flowers — their boldness, their unpredictability, the textures of gumnuts, the sculptural drama of banksias and wrathas, the soft arcs of eucalyptus leaves, the vibrancy of proteas. The colour palettes they offer are wild and limitless — rich ochres, soft pinks, dusty greens, deep burgundies — and they make for the most inspiring, naturally expressive subjects.
You can check out the full Every Bloom collection now — just click here. And as always, if you’ve got any questions or just want to chat about the work, feel free to get in touch.
Thanks for following along, supporting the journey, and showing love for what I do. It means the world.
Much love,
Aidan
