Owls have always fascinated me — the way each species carries its own quiet strength and distinct character. In Her Vibrant Stare, I set out to capture that magnetic presence, focusing on the piercing gaze of this incredible bird. The bold green and soft grey background heightens the pinks, purples, and layered tones that flow through her feathers, giving the piece both vibrancy and warmth. What I love about painting native birds is how they embody both fragility and resilience — they’re full of stories that connect us back to the bush. This artwork, with its expressive strokes and vibrant palette, is a celebration of that spirit and a reminder of how nature always finds a way to hold our gaze.

Through the use of mixed media, combining acrylics, spray, enamel and intermittent use of oil paints I let my subject emerge from a rich and deeply layered base. The dimensional texture that masterfully unveils each layer, lets the bright colours play in harmony and contrast with each other.
This artwork is created on 380gsm 100% cotton canvas and finished with a double coat UV resistant, high gloss varnish to protect the integrity and longevity of the painting. Stretched and ready to hang, using gallery-grade hanging wire, this artwork is completed with a custom-crafted floating frame made from Tasmanian oak. I have signed this original painting on the front and back, with its title and date written on the rear of the canvas.
