There’s something about Australian natives that has always pulled me in. Banksias, proteas, gum leaves — they’ve got a grit and character you don’t find in softer, more delicate blooms. They’re bold, resilient, unapologetic, and they carry a story of the land we live on. That’s why I paint them. This large statement piece was inspired by a simple vase of natives I saw on the table one day. The arrangement stopped me in my tracks — raw, dramatic, full of personality. I knew I had to get it onto canvas. I started with spray paint and enamel, letting the energy flow in layers, before moving into oils to capture the texture and vibrancy. My brushstrokes are intentionally bold and dramatic, designed to heighten the vitality of each flower — the twisting power of a banksia, the radiance of a protea, the freshness of native greenery. For me, this painting isn’t just about depicting flowers. It’s about capturing their spirit — strong, playful, and full of life. At scale, it’s a statement piece designed to transform a room. A burst of colour, a conversation starter, and a celebration of Australian native beauty.

Through the use of mixed media, combining acrylics, spray, enamel and intermittent use of oil paints I let my subject emerge from a rich and deeply layered base. The dimensional texture that masterfully unveils each layer, lets the bright colours play in harmony and contrast with each other.
This artwork is created on 380gsm 100% cotton canvas and finished with a double coat UV resistant, high gloss varnish to protect the integrity and longevity of the painting. Stretched and ready to hang, using gallery-grade hanging wire, this artwork is completed with a custom-crafted floating frame made from Tasmanian oak. I have signed this original painting on the front and back, with its title and date written on the rear of the canvas.
